Biography
Samantha Quillish is a lyric Soprano and recent young artist at the National Opera Studio. Samantha is supported by Opera Prelude and took part in the Royal Opera House’s mentorship scheme 2021-2022 after graduating from the Royal Academy of Music.
Samantha has performed in multiple Operatic works including the title role in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, Iris Semele, Nina Cherubin and Papagena Die Zauberflöte. In 2022 Samantha performed with British Youth Opera performing the role of Mistress Page in Vaughan Williams Sir John in Love at Opera Holland Park. Opera scenes performed include Older sister Pig, The Queen Moon Tea, Marenka Bartered Bride, Agathe Die Freischutz, Marzeline Fidelio, Eurydice Orfeo ed Eurydice, Countess Le Nozze di Figaro, Manto Niobe, Sandrina La Finta Giardiniera and Anne Truelove The Rake’s Progress. Scene performances have occured through UK with Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North and English National Opera. Samantha has performed as part of the Glyndebourne Chorus in their critically acclaimed festival production of The Wreckers which was also performed at the Royal Albert Hall. As a concert soloist Samantha has performed in Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s 2nd Symphony and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Samantha has performed multiple times as a soloist at the Wigmore Hall with the National Opera Studio, Independent Opera and Royal Academy’s Song Circle.
In 2022 Samantha was awarded first prize in the VIII Odin International Music Competition and runner up in the Mimas International Music Competition. Samantha is the recipient of an Independent Opera Voice Scholarship and Fellowship, a DipRAM for outstanding performance, the G Embley Memorial Prize and the 2017-18 Clifton Prize for Singing.
